Back in the day when Read it Later came out, I thought it was the greatest thing. After some time and popularity, Readitlater became GetPocket and it is now Pocket.

It has evolved quite a bit since its early days, and I recently started using it again.

Using a combination of tags in Pocket, IFTTT and Buffer, I can maximize my time and share the most relevant content I come across. I'll elaborate on this later if you'd like.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that GetPocket has a partnership with Samsung, it applies to Samsung Galaxy devices. If you have a Samsung Galaxy 6, Note5, and maybe newer, you can get 6 months of Premium service from Pocket.

Instagram has been very slow to add new features that the users demand. They still don't allow links in the captions. But they recently added multiple account login feature, like Twitter has had for a while.

This allows you to switch between two or more Instagram accounts without having to logout of one and login to the other one. If you need to manage multiple Instagram accounts, this is how you do it.

How to use multiple accounts with Instagram

Here is how you activate the feature if you want to take advantage of it, the screenshots are based on Android, but the iOS version of Instagram is almost identical

1 Make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app installed. This works for iOS and Android.

2 Login to one of your Instagram accounts and go to the Options menu.

3 Scroll all the way to the bottom of the options and look for the "Add Account" option

This will prompt a new login window.

4 Enter the username and password for the second account you want to use.

5 If all went well, you now have a small icon on the bottom right corner of your screens. This is how you switch accounts.

To switch accounts, you long-press the icon representing the account you're currently using and this will bring up a menu where you can pick the other account.

That's it, pretty simple and easy to do!

LastPass is great for mobile devices, it lets you automatically fill in the username and password for your apps, unless you break autofill. Here's how you fix it.

The post How To Fix Autofill on LastPass Mobile appeared first on Digital Marketing Through Content & Influence.

I love LastPass. They are making some strange decisions lately, but they are still my preferred method to keep usernames, passwords and secure notes available wherever I go, and whenever I need them.

If you have LastPass Premium, and a late model Android then you have a featured called App Fill. With app fill, LastPass will autofill in your usernames and passwords when you try to login to an app like Twitter, or Instagram, or Netflix, or whatever.

This is similar to how LastPass works on the browser, except it works with your mobile apps on Android.

LastPass works on all of your devices.

But sometimes we goof it up or we have fat fingers and It seems that Lastpass autofill is broken.

If you don't have the app fill option and you always have to copy and paste your username and password, I recommend you get LastPass Premium which is only $12 per year. You get tougher security like two-factor authentication and mobile integration amongst other things.

At one point when switching between Instagram accounts I accidentally told LastPass NOT to prompt me anymore. This meant that whenever I logged out of Instagram I would have to manually go and find my password for the other account I wanted to use.

This is a major PITA and it defeats the whole purpose of using LastPass. If you find yourself in the same boat as I did, then this is how you fix it.

Re-Associate LastPass app fill with your app

Here is how you can associate LastPass with an app after you accidentally or deliberately told Lastpass not to prompt you.

Open up LastPass, and on the top left corner click on the menu slider. I can't show you screenshots of everything because LastPass doesn't allow screenshots of any of its screens.

Once you open that up, at the bottom you'll see the cogwheel icon and settings menu, click on that.

The 3rd option down the list is labeled "App Fill," click on that.

Then look for the option to "Edit app fill settings" and click on that.

Search for the app you want to associate with LastPass, in my case, it was Instagram.

Click on the app, then you will see two boxes. To add the association make sure "Show fill helper" is checked, then click ok.

After you do this and you get back to your app, LastPass should come up at the login screen and try to help you fill in username and password. No more copying and pasting.

Apple has a new iPhone trade-in program, and it is rumored to be the beginning of a new attempt at gaining the market share that Android has swiftly taken away from the Cupertino giant.

You'll be able to trade in older models of iPhones directly to Apple in order to get some cash or credit towards a new iphone. The new iPhone is also rumored to be announced soon and the speculation by Apple fanboys is growing rapidly. But don't buy into the hype just yet.

Fact of the matter is that Android has been taking over iPhone sales and activation for the past couple years but hardly anyone covers this or cares because of the strong personal attachment that Apple develops with their customers. It's almost like a cult. Don't get me wrong, I love apple products but I also love technology that works and I will put my personal preference aside in preference of a better solution.

You can help build the hype for a new iPhone device coming this fall, or you can get a real smart phone today. Your options are not limited to the Apple brand. You have Samsung, HTC, Motorola and a few others that literally dance circles around any iPhone model and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

I commend Apple's marketing brilliance, but don't be fooled. There are better options out there, with better technological specs, better components, faster, brighter, smarter. I'm a techie, I know these things.

So in regards to the iPhone trade-in program, do yourself a favor and try to get cash for your iPhone and then go to your wireless provider and get an Android phone. You'll take a few minutes to get used to the different interface, but once you do, you'll wonder why anyone would get an iPhone.

Recently at #SMMOC we talked about Vine. Twitter's latest attempt at staying relevant. I gotta say it is pretty interesting and more compelling than I originally thought. Vine is pretty cool but if you don't have an iPhone, you're out of luck. But I went online and found some alternatives for Android users. Primarily I found Viddy.

So what is Vine? Vine is a little video app that lets you share video clips with your friends on Twitter, but the video clips are just six seconds long. You'll be surprised how interesting they can be. If you don't believe me, get the app or check out an online viewer for vine it's called Vinepeek.

I've been describing Viddy to friends as Instagram for video. that's the easiest way to explain it. If they don't know what instagram is then you can say that viddy is a quick video trailer maker. Or an app to edit short little videos and give them some effects and a soundtrack.

Viddy's time limit is 15 seconds. But like Instagram, you can pick several effects that get applied to your video. In fact most of the experience is like Instagram's. You pick a video from your gallery, then you select a 15 second segment. After your selection is made, then you can apply an effect. You select a thumbnail to be the representative image for the video and you can also apply a 15 second soundtrack from a preset list of choices.

Once you've setup your video effects and stuff, you can give it a title, description and share it out to your networks. You have built-in sharing abilities for Facebook, Youtube (yes it uploads there too!), Twitter and Tumblr. The only problem I've ran into with Viddy so far is that it doesn't seem to save the authorization for some of these apps. Like I have to grant permission to access Twitter each time.

With that said, check out my Viddy Profile in my Social Networks Page, or enjoy some videos I made over the past couple days with Viddy. Pretty cool stuff.

Just me walking into the Post office. A crappy little video looks more glamorous after you run it through viddy's filters & add soundtracks.

@WaterClaire's friend waking up a bit

@WaterClaire meeting her friend. She has no idea. This one video didn't get a soundtrack, just an effect and the 15 second clip.

You can use videos that are already on your phone. You don't have to use a new video. This one is from when we were still in the hospital with @WaterClaire

This one has a video trailer feel to it because of the music. Just a little video I was doing with her, this one has an effect and soundtrack applied to it.

Here are some screenshots of the app and the process of getting a video Onto Viddy.

I'm happy to tell you that the City of Irvine has come out with their own mobile app. Seems like everyone's making an app nowadays. Most people or businesses don't need an app, but this is different. Irvine decided to be ahead of the curve and created this cool Android and iOS app. When it first came out it was only available for Android. Now there is an iOS version. The app is useful I think because it makes the city's facilities and services more accessible.

Living in Irvine gives me an insight into the culture that we have, and I know most people have smart phones so this is a great move. You can use the phone to find and connect you different places. You can email or call the police officers in charge of the different high schools around town. If you're social and want to go out and mingle with other city dwellers you'll find a cool section that shows you events coming up so you can join.

One thing that I thought was really interesting is the crime tip tool. You can actually report a non-emergency crime directly from your phone. That's pretty neat, you can just send and alert to IPD if you see a crime taking place and you don't even have to dial the police department or 911. Though you're still reminded to call 911 if there is an emergency. Something that was a bit unexpected for me, is the "Teen Events" and "Youth Action Team" social media icons, in fact there's a whole section related to Teens and I just found that odd. Why isn't there a "seniors" section, or "entrepreneurs"? Perhaps Teens is the demographic that the Irvine Company determined is using mobile devices with these kinds of apps.

I got the app as soon as I heard about it and I like it. It's a bit rough around the edges when it comes to design. The functionality of the app although limited, is well done. The icons and menus make sense and you are able to do what you are being offered. The app hasn't crashed on me or given me any problems. If you want to try it yourself, just head to your respective markets and Download for Android, or Download for iOS.

At last, a few screenshots of the app to give you a better idea of what it looks like. So far it's been great and you should get it if you live in the area. I'm guessing that cities like Costa Mesa, or Tustin, Newport or even south of Irvine will start their own apps soon, especially if enough people download and use the Access Irvine app.

I came across an article about RIMs desperate efforts to get people interested in their new phone. This time is the Blackberry 10. But you won't see it this year. As I've said before, I was a hardcore Blackberry fan until the iPhone 3GS. And I hate to see companies fail but sometimes it is by their own actions that they get chopped.

RIM is close to its end. Something miraculous needs to happen in that company or else they'll be scooped up by an investment firm, or another manufacturer that will simply piece out their IP and make Blackberry nothing more than a memory. RIMM (NYSE) was trading at 144 in June 2008, Today it is trading around 13 - 14. That sucks!

Developers get the "alpha"

The new Blackberry 10 is being handed out to developers to entice them to build apps. But even the developer's model sucks...

While the remarkably unfinished state of the phones may add to RIM’s reputation for delivering products behind schedule and incomplete, Alec Saunders, the company’s vice president of developer relations, said it was necessary to get a “very, very stripped down” version out to developers now to avoid a more serious problem later.

What Alec Saunders doesn't get is that developers don't want a shitty platform. They want a good platform, long gone are the days of a buggy os

credit: shutterstock

and diy hardware like when Android started. That was new and exciting for developers, it was okay to have a few features missing here and there. That's not the case now. People expect a solid foudnation in which to build their apps. So you see, I feel bad for my used-to-be favorite mobile device maker, but they've brought that upon themselves.

I am pretty sure Blackberry/RIM will continue to fade into the abyss of irrelevance in the next 12 - 18 months and eventually somebody is just going to scoop them up at cost and end their painful flailing.

In the aricle, Alec is quoted...

“The reason why we’re doing this — which is unprecedented for us and it’s quite uncommon in the industry — is because we want to create a wave of application support behind the new BlackBerrys before we bring them to market,” Mr. Saunders said in an interview on Friday at a RIM office here where much of the new operating system was developed. “If we launch without applications, well, it will be slow.”

Really dude? unprecedented...? Blackberry's playbook might as well have been beta because it broke everytime I tried doing anything with it, it crashed at the slightest attempt to actually play around with it. And, well, you're right if you launch without apps it will be slow... But if you launch a shitty product it will just be halted.

I like my android, and most of the Android Apps out there. But I thought that there is one missing Android app for our smart phones. We need a Chrome / Android app. Similar to the one that lets you send websites from your chrome browser to your mobile phone. Except the need is to make it go the other way.

Use cases:
* Scan QR code and send info to your Chrome browser.
* As you are reading an article, you walk into your office and want to finish it on your desktop.

Ideally, you could choose different "profiles" or users to send it to, but directly to the browser. So if you need to send a website to someone, you could just send it directly to their Chrome browsing session.

Wouldn't that be cool and useful?

I guess a rudimentary way of doing this right now is with a web service, like readitlater or evernote or something like that. The only problem with that is the couple of additional steps of sending it to the service. Then typing in some description for it, and then retrieving the website when you get to the desktop.

Another way would be to have your browsers synchronized and save the article to a temporary bookmarks folder.

I guess I'll have to try this and see how it works.

Amazing what the fear for your privacy will do. Need a secure phone? Enter the Boeing phone. Yes, Boeing is about to enter the market of mobile devices. There's little known about the ubersecure mobile device that Boeing is making. One thing is for sure, you won't be able to afford it anytime soon. Well, maybe, if you're rich. My guess? 5000 to 8000 dollars per device.

Apparently this phone that Boeing Co. is developing and is ready to release soon will compete with existing secure mobile phones. An example of a secure phone is the Blackberry Barack Obama uses. Other leaders of state, major CEOs and security aware millionaires are already using secure devices in their day to day activities. Will Boeing bring a viable and successful alternative to the choices these moguls have? We'll see.

The Boeing Co. is developing a mobile phone based on the Android operating system that will compete with other manufacturers offering highly secure communication devices, company officials said April 10. Roger Krone, president of Boeing Network and Space Systems, told reporters in Arlington, Va., that this was probably the first time the aerospace and defense industry giant will offer a communication device designed to use cellular networks. The company is near the end of the development cycle and getting ready to launch what he called “the Boeing phone” in late 2012, said Brian Palma, vice president of the company’s secure infrastructure group.

Talk O'Clock is a new social app. Kind of interesting and kind of kooky but nonetheless I gave it a try. The whole concept is novel and it works like this:

You set up an alarm for whatever time and date you need and the system will try to find someone that will call you to wake you up. Essentially, crowd sourcing your wake up calls! Your phone number is never revealed because the system first calls the person that will wake you up, then they connect them to you.

A nice recording alerts you when you're about to be connected and they ask you to please be nice. Classy touch if you ask me.

I tried it out actually this morning and I called someone to wake them up. You can either create an alarm or "Wake Somebody up". Unfortunately when I called somebody, the call went straight to voicemail... I hope they aren't late for work! The app for Android is pretty simple, and it seems to work well. You can do two main things, set an alarm, or Wake somebody up.

Main Screen
Talk O'Clock icon
My Assigned Calls
Main Screen

To test the receiving end, I've setup two alarms. We'll see if someone calls me to "wake me up" The fact is that I'm still relying on my alarm clock, which happens to also be on my phone. One interesting aspect of the system is that you can also select if you want to be called by men or women, and also you can choose to call only men or women. Could two people meet randomly with this?

This app raises a bunch of questions, the most obvious one is: Why? You need a smart phone to join the system, yet all smart phones have built in alarm clocks...

If this was a website service for people that don't have an alarm clock and just have a phone, then it would be great... Other than a big social experiment, I guess I just see it as a novelty item for now.

And if you were to depend on this alarm to actually wake you up for something important... What if no one wants to call me? Will I just be late to work?
