Crowdsourcing a post about Radio and Internet radio and broadcasting.
I'm writing a new post and I'd love to include your thoughts and opinions on it.
The topic is radio and broadcasting in today's world. I don't want to give away the whole thing, but I'd love to hear your take on the following questions.
- Do you listen to FM or AM radio? Why or why not? when do you listen to it? and how (radio, internet, car)
- Do you listen to internet radio, like Slacker, Pandora, Icecast, Shoutcast, I heart radio or others? Do you have favorite shows you "tune in" for?
- do you listen to podcasts? do you watch video shows on the internet?
- Do you prefer to listen to podcasts vs real live shows? why or why not?
It is my belief that AM/FM -- traditionally called "terrestial" radio stations are going to go by the wayside sooner than later. Or at least the idea that you need an antena to have a broadcast system. But ocassionally I'm wrong 🙂 and I'd love to hear your take on this.
I think the only reason for AM/FM to exist is for local timely news. It is basic and I think it's good for emergencies and basic broadcasting. But when it comes to entertainment, to those 3 - 6 hours a day people devote to entertaining themselves, I think radio has lost the battle. Podcasts, online video and social media have clearly replaced traditional classic tv & radio.
