Covers of old songs
John Mayer has a couple of good covers I like and just discovered recently, I found them through Pandora. I think its good to remake old songs, they connect with the current generation and preserve our culture. Who dares say Americans have no culture? This IS our culture, our music, our traditions, and its worth preserving.
These two songs are:Message in A Bottle and Free Fallin.
One by The Police and the other by Tom Petty; some purists would say that this is offensive, classics like these should never be touched, remixed, etc. But I think its a good thing, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery isn't just a saying. As I looked these up, I found that Message in a Bottle has been remade by a lot of people. John Mayer, Machine Head, American Hi-Fi, Matisayahu are just a few of the names that came up. I love how art gets re-invented as new generations come. Free Fallin I'm sure has been remade a number of times as well, but I had to get back to work before I looked it up.
