Subscribe to Craigslist, how to do it.
How to subscribe to Craigslist's notifications.
I have been doing a lot of freelancing. All the stuff I know how to do can make me money. I have some debt, and a wedding coming up later this year, so I need all the money I can get. Gotta work for it though. Craigslist is a great place to find quick gigs to make me a buck, I have been doing this for years. Craigslist is a very simple website, they have a basic authentication system that allows you to log in and post ads, you don't need an account to read them. I think their basic services contribute to their success, no thrills, no frills, just post and read. Meh! I want thrills and frills.
I hate coming back to the site every 20 - 60 minutes to see if there are new posts, so I wish for a notification system. You can subscribe to the RSS feed of your choice and get notified with your reader. Rather than fixing the problem, subscribing to RSS feeds on a reader simply moves the inconvenience of checking every 20 minutes from Craigslist to your RSS Reader, so that isn't an option. Trust me, I use Google Reader for all my RSS subscriptions, but adding 4 or more feeds from Craigslist would simply clutter my reader and make it unusable, forcing me to start from scratch at some point.
Craigslist doesn't' seem to be interested in adding new features and options to their site, and I don't blame them. There are several ways to get notifications from Craigslist out there, but the easiest and most effective way I've found to-date is using notify.me to send you alerts.
After that long preamble I'll tell you quickly how to setup these alerts so you can save yourself time from checking craigslist all the time. This also works for other sites by the way.
The steps are very simple and as you go through them, they should be self-explanatory.
- Sign up at notify.me )
- Verify your account via e-mail.
- Configure your account settings.
- Add sources. This is where you add the RSS feed address of the page you want to be notified about, and where you want the notifications sent.
After you've done the steps above, you will receive alerts about new posts from your sources, delivered to your instant messenger, phone, or e-mail.
Cheers.
